The origins of St-Tropez are unremarkable. Stuck out on the southern shores of the Golfe de St-Tropez, away from the main coastal routes on a wide peninsula that never warranted real roads, St-Tropez could only easily be reached by boat. It became renowned for its footloose and fancy-free attitude regarding fun, sex, and sun when Brigitte Bardot came to St. Tropez in 1956 to film “And God Created Woman.” If you are considering a winter wedding beach destination and a small wedding ceremony and lots of privacy is on the top of your list, then St. Tropez is the most ideal destination. There are also forty private beaches that provide seclusion and encourage a seductive mood.
You can just relax in a café and watch the many luxury yachts which have made St. Tropez their home. Famous people are often seen in the jet setting area of the city. In fact, Prince Albert, Naomi Campbell, Clint Eastwood, Robert De Niro, and Jack Nicholson have all been seen in St. Tropez. You never know who you might meet on the streets. Many of the beaches offer windsurfing, sailing and canoeing equipment for rent, while others offer motorized water sports, such as power boats, jet bikes and water skiing. Saint Tropez is well known for its fantastic food and a wide variety of shops.
Be sure to book your room far in advance – twelve months is really not too far in advance, especially if you’re visiting between June and September. However, it’s not a bad idea to also check availability during the off months. Most hotels are closed in the winter. Unlike the shingled beaches of the Riviera, the shores of St. Tropez are made of mostly fine sand. Some of the private beaches are naturist beaches.
