Winter Beach Wedding Destination – Invite Dolphins in Honaunau Bay

A must-visit Hawaiian destination, Honaunau Bay is one of a series of tranquil, turquoise bays tucked into the Big Island’s South Kona coast. Its crescent-shaped beach, soft white sands and windswept palm trees have lured photographers for years, giving Honaunau distinction as Hawaii’s most photographed beach. The bay’s exquisite environs, the Kona coast, feature topographies ranging from rain forests to coffee plantations and embody the magnificence and mystique that so uniquely define the Big Island.
You will have to scout the place or arrange for a proper wedding planner though, as there are no concession stands or showers. There are port-a-potty restrooms available. It would be advisable to have temporary restrooms built so that your guests don’t have any trouble.
Honaunau offers some of the best snorkeling in Hawaii. The bay is directly next to one of Hawaii’s most interesting historical landmarks, Place of Refuge. With clear and deep water this is also a popular scuba diving location. Honaunau Bay is fronted by large, smooth, lava rock flats. These rock flats are just about the same height as the water line which makes for a perfect shelf to sit on as you don your snorkel gear.
Another splendid reason why you should have your beach wedding in Honaunau Bay is that there are no specific activities geared toward children. Hence you will not have to share the beach with many vacationing families. We aren’t the only creatures that like calm, warm water. Hawaiian spinner dolphins feed at night then rest and take care of their young in the calm inshore waters like Honaunau Bay during daylight. Dolphins tend to be a little shy at first but can be quite curious and friendly once they realize you’re not a threat to them. So choose Honaunau Bay to satisfy the adventure streak in you and for the dolphins.
